New Lens Counselling
(English and French)
Karine Coenen counsellor
I am a qualified Person-Centred counsellor based in Peebles in the Scottish Borders. I can offer sessions in-person (within a 45min drive from Peebles), online, on the phone.
I am a volunteer for Cruse Scotland (Grief charity).
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
and qualified to work with adults age 16 onwards.

In some areas, my personal and professional experiences have uniquely informed my ability to empathise with my clients, allowing me to offer a deeper level of insight and support.
About me as a person
I was born and raised in the South of France but I have lived in Scotland for most of my life and I hope for this to continue.I came to counselling late in life, and looking back, it feels like the timing was right. If I have always felt strongly about helping others fulfil their potential, for a long time, my curiosity about the world and humanity took precedence. This has taken me to live many lives in one, lives peperred with many adventures.
I worked fo a while in the tourist industry, lived in Indonesia for a couple of years, done several stents in studying. These included a long journey up to a PhD in Biology after which, the inner desire to help others in their journey was no longer possible to ignore... This materialised initially in becoming a Biology teacher which I did for about 15 years. Eventually, the legacy of COVID burnout and the impossibility (at least for me...) to "Get It Right For Every Child" made me decide to change career.

I discovered the non-directive Person-Centred approach to counselling and psychotherapy when doing my Certificate in Counselling skills. This felt like I had finally landed home professionally.

I feel absolutely aligned with Person-Centred values and I believe that I can deliver the warmth, care, compassion and openess that are the key requisite for successful non-directive therapy.
I look foward to be alongside you, through the tears and the laughter, as we navigate this reflective part of your journey.

Type of Session and cost
- In person, the length of session ranges from 50 min (£60), to 75 minutes (£80), depending on availability. Those prices are based on a room rental fee of £10/hr and will change accordingly if the room is more or less expensive. The first session is online (unless you can make your way to Peebles), free and runs for around 30 min.
- There is no commitment to continue counselling for a fixed number of sessions. You are welcome to contact me if you just need to get things out of your chest once, or wether your would like to try it before you decide whether this is going to work for you.
- Low-cost sessions are available for £20 as a block of 6 X 50min weekly online sessions or in person outdoors in Peebles. Therafter, you are welcome to continue chosing a combination of tarif/frequency that can fit your budget within the standard service as described below. Six sessions may sound very brief but in my experience, a lot of change can happen in a small number of sessions.
- Online sessions can be weekly, fortnighly or as and when needed. They are charged between £35-50 for 50min, I trust you to pay what you can afford.
